Located in Melbourne’s famous Federation Square just upstairs from the iconic Transport bar, Taxi Kitchen’s sleek design and glass walls showcase Melbourne’s skyline with views across the Yarra River and Arts Precinct across to Southbank and Flinders Street Station.

It’s an ideal destination for a pre or post-show meal or drink that is sure to complement your evening.

Taxi Kitchen’s Executive Chef, Tony Twitchett uses only the highest quality and locally sourced produce to deliver Australian cuisine with an Asian twist, and what they believe truly sets them apart is  their diverse Victorian-only wine list.

Tony’s food philosophy stems from his upbringing in rural North West Victoria, where eating seasonal and local has always been the norm. Tony discovered his passion for food by preparing family meals with his three elder brothers – all of whom are chefs - and his Mum who was also an accomplished cook. It was a time when what you ate was what you had grown, harvested or fished.

At the age of 17, he moved to Melbourne to join his chef brothers Paul and Peter at the Royal Arcade restaurant Luciano’s, before starting an apprenticeship at Stokehouse and meeting his culinary inspiration Michael Lambie.

Tony’s travels in Asia have inspired his love of those eponymous flavour profiles. Despite training in traditional European cooking techniques, Tony’s breadth of experience in the different cuisines of the world has led to him continue his signature gastronomic style, embracing Contemporary Australian ideals.

Tony has been at Taxi Kitchen as the Executive chef and has shaped the food offering for twelve years, developing an incredibly passionate and talented team. The Taxi alumni are spread across Melbourne and the world and his signature now spans Transit Rooftop Bar, Taxi Riverside, as well as Taxi Kitchen, shaping the very soul of what they do.
